Synopsis
This beloved musical—one of the Czechoslovak film industry’s first and most important forays into the genre—is a spirited ode to young love and rebellion. Set amid the bucolic splendor of the countryside during the annual hop harvest, it revolves around two students—the intellectual Filip (Vladimír Pucholt) and the free-spirited Hanka (Ivana Pavlová)—whose budding romance leads to tensions among their peers. Putting a distinctly Eastern Bloc spin on the MGM-style spectacular, this tuneful charmer features a parade of sunny songs that have embedded themselves into Czech pop culture.
