It Couldn’t Happen Here

Perfect pop surrealism meets a deconstructed, darkly deadpan road movie in this sublimely strange and singular musical odyssey from legendary synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. Members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe play themselves, a pair of wanderers who embark on a bizarro adventure from the British coast to London, encountering a curious array of outré characters—played by the likes of Joss Ackland and Barbara Windsor in multiple roles—along the way. It’s all drenched in the lush, caustic romanticism of hits from the pair’s first two studio albums, including all-time classics “West End Girls,” “It’s a Sin,” and “Always on My Mind.”
