Rabindranath Tagore

Renowned Bengali poet, writer, composer, philosopher, activist, and painter Rabindranath Tagore was one of the most transformative cultural figures in Indian history: a polymath who became the first non-European to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature and a committed humanist whose anti-imperialist principles made him a leading critic of the British Raj. Made to celebrate the centenary of Tagore’s birth, Satyajit Ray’s lyrical documentary combines archival material with dramatized scenes (some of which Ray called “among the most moving and powerful things that I have produced”) to introduce viewers to the life and work of a once-in-a-generation genius. The film is presented in standard definition in the best available master.
