Tokyo Pop

This unsung gem of 1980s American independent cinema is a breezy tour through bubble-era Tokyo, brimming with knowing nods to the city’s vibrant pop culture. Disillusioned with life in New York City, wannabe rocker Wendy (Carrie Hamilton) spontaneously hops on a plane to Tokyo with dreams of making it big as a singer—only to find herself broke and adrift in an unfamiliar city. Just when she’s ready to give up, she meets Hiro (Diamond Yukai), a rock ’n’ roller whose band is looking for their big break. Could the novelty of a foreign front woman be their ticket to success?
