Young and Innocent

Alfred Hitchcock’s delightfully entertaining, often overlooked tale of a wrongly accused man follows a young writer (Derrick De Marney) who, when he becomes the prime suspect in the murder of an actress, goes on the run with the chief constable’s daughter (Nova Pilbeam) as his only help. Romance and thrills ensue, with Hitchcock’s master touch apparent in a memorable children’s-party set piece and an elaborately choreographed crane shot used to reveal the killer. Please be advised: this film contains a sequence involving blackface.
