Exiled

An ultrastylish underworld saga crackling with virtuosically choreographed bullet-spray, relentless tension, and vivid characters, this bravura thriller ranks among action auteur Johnnie To’s definitive achievements. Evocatively set in the Portuguese colony of Macau just as it’s about to be handed over to China, EXILED traces the tangled loyalties that develop between an ex-gangster (Nick Cheung) and two groups of hitmen—one out to assassinate him, the other to protect him.
