Synopsis
Acclaimed director Todd Haynes reteamed with his SAFE star Julianne Moore for this masterpiece modeled on Douglas Sirk’s exquisite melodramas of the 1950s. Moore earned an Oscar nomination for her dazzling performance as a Connecticut housewife whose seemingly picture-perfect family life begins to unravel, laying bare the sexual repression and racism that structure the world around her. With exquisite, Academy Award–nominated cinematography from Ed Lachman, FAR FROM HEAVEN draws on Hollywood’s past for a strikingly modern and achingly tender vision of midcentury malaise.
