Steve Gunn is regarded as one of the finest guitar players of our era. The Philadelphia native got off to an early start in high school punk bands before establishing himself as a player in different genres and touring internationally. Through his music, Gunn has always embraced expanse and movement that springs from the simple and profound relationship between humans and their environment. Eyes on the Lines, released last year on Matador Records, is his fourth full-length album. Gunn says about creating this Criterion list: “These are a few of the films, actors, and directors that occupy a space in my mind. Lock me in a room with all that they have done.”
